Gas Welding (Oxy-Fuel Welding) is a process that uses fuel gases and oxygen to weld and cut metals. For Gas Welding a Welding Torch is used to heat two pieces of metal to a temperature that produces a shared pool of molten metal. The molten pool is usually supplied with an additional metal filler rod commonly known as Gas Welding Rods. In Oxy-Fuel cutting a Cutting Torch is used to heat metal to a temperature where an oxygen stream is trained on the metal and then flows out of the cut as an oxide slag. If the cutting process is all that is needed then a dedicated Cutting Torch should be used but if welding and cutting operations are likely then a multi-use torch should be used with either a welding or cutting detachable head.
