Mig Welding or Metal Inert Gas Welding is an arc welding process in which a continuous and consumable wire electrode together with a shielding gas are fed through a welding torch. It is a commonly used Welding process within industry due to it's versatility, speed, low cost and relative ease of the operator adapting to the process. Mig Welding is best suited to indoor applications because of air volatility, for outdoor use a related process, flux cored arc welding, is employed. With the advances in Welding technology manufacturers are developing equipment to recognise todays changing market and Mig Welders are now being designed for ease of use and set-up with a variety of functions to satisfy the needs of the Industrial, Automotive and DIY market sectors. The Mig Welding process enables the operator to weld a variety of materials including Mild Steel and Stainless Steel and Aluminium. Mig Brazing is becoming more popular within the Automotive sector and some manufacturers are designing Mig Welders to meet this need.
